Alicia's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

November 2, 2003

Well, so much has happened since I last wrote an entry. Let me try to make this as short as possible. Yeah, right!!

First of all, for Alaina's birthday we bought her the American Girl doll AND she got enough birthday money that she bought her own bike. She loves them both and I can't wait to get her another American Girl doll for Christmas. She's never played with dolls before until now. And I tell ya, this is the best doll! She sleeps with her, dresses her, takes her everywhere. I put the doll in her bed while she was sleeping and she woke up to her doll. She couldn't believe it! Thanks Jen, for a great idea!!

Then I went through a tough time when I went through my fourth miscarriage. I won't go into everything, but will say that it never gets any easier.

The following week, I was taking my aunt (who was here from Colorado) up to Amish country. We stopped at a pioneer village on the way up. When I went to stop at the stop sign, my brakes went out. I pumped them so hard that I injured my right leg. Just as I thought it was going to stop, the engine raced at over 5000 rpm's and it took off further into the intersection! The only way I got it to stop was I threw it into park. Two trucks barely missed us. We were so lucky! Now I am scared to death to drive the van, so I am driving the Explorer and Bill is driving the van. Poor guy is stuck with the van and the bumper sticker that reads "My daughter LOVES Girl Scouts!" with hearts all over it lol!! The van has acted fine since then, so maybe I'll try driving it again. We can't afford to buy another vehicle right now. And the dealer diagnostics system showed no problems. So we'll just have to deal with it for now. Ugh!

Just when we thought we had had all the bad luck we could get......Yesterday we were at some friend's house. They had a trampoline. The girls were on the trampoline playing popcorn. Well, Alaina got "popped" right off the trampoline! She went flying through the air and landed on her left arm on the ground. At first I thought it was broken, but she quit crying and went back to playing. On the way home she was whimpering. Bill and I talked about whether we should take her to the er or not. We decided that she probably just bruised it badly and would see how she felt today. This morning she gets up and she can't move her arm. She turned from me and her arm was just dangling there, with no control over it. We took her to the ER and she broke her arm right at her shoulder. They couldn't put a cast on it, so they put her arm in a sling and sent her home with the xrays and instructions to call the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow. They will either put her in a cast that covers her shoulder, arm, and her chest, or they will do surgery to put a pin in her arm. Yikes!! Is there a third choice?! NO! I feel so bad for her! They gave her tylenol with codeine for pain, but she hasn't needed it. It says that it could knock her out. Gee, I think I need it lol! The worst part is that she is left handed. Of course most kids would be so lucky as to break their left arm. Not her!

So that's where my life stands as of right now. Anyone want to trade me?! Never mind. I don't blame you. On the plus side, the weather has been spectacular. And the fall colors were just gorgeous! I live in a beautiful part of Ohio and am so lucky to have views of the rolling hills of the Appalachians around me. I have a beautiful Silver Maple tree right outside my kitchen window. One morning I went out to take a picture of it. The sun was shining gloriously on the tree and accenting the greens, golds, oranges, and reds all over the tree. All those colors on one tree! It was so pretty!!

This Friday I will be driving up to Chicago to meet a group of Moms from this site. I truly cannot wait to meet you all whether this is the first or second time. It's going to be a wonderful weekend! I'll fill you all in on the details next week!

I also want to congratulate a wonderful friend from this site, Linda from precon. She is now pg with twins! And I am so happy for her and her dh Andrew! Hugs to you both!!

Well, that's it from my corner of the world. Forgive any typos. I am typing this right into the entry form and haven't checked it. I really hope it doesn't get lost in cyberspace!!

Take care,
Alicia

PS I'm sorry I haven't sent emails to my friends, Katrina and Megan among others. Forgive me. Please?! Hugs to you all!
