Holly's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

our evacuation

March 30, 2007

I have been on a mad spring-cleaning kick. I have to start this entry by saying I hate cleaning.  I also hate cooking but that is a different post. Anyway, I have been doing spring-cleaning around the house only it actually seems somewhat fun this time. I guess because I got to do my favorite hobby Shopping! My oldest is moderately allergic to every indoor outdoor allergy and off the chart allergic to dust and mold. Thankfully she is has no food allergy. I decided it is time to upgrade my vacuum cleaner. I had a very cheap dirt devil and I liked it was small and light but I have noticed lately that the hose is getting clogged all the time and that it is putting dust back into the hair. My sister in law got a Bissell healthy home and totally sold me on it. She demonstrated it at my mother in laws house. My mother in law is the neatest woman I know her house is always spotless. When I saw what came out of her new carpet I wanted one. So today I got one and I got the Swiffer duster with the extendable handle because I am short.  I am having fun using my new toys. I have vacuumed every room and the girls' beds. I swiffered the house. It hasn't seemed like a chore. The only part of house cleaning I enjoy is cleaning out the closets. I have always loved closets. I in general a laid back person. (My sister would laugh about that) The only thing I think I am really Type A about is my closet. Each person in the family has their own color hanger, and all clothes have to be hung a certain way and face a certain way in the closet. Then they are sorted by what they are light jackets, dresses, shirts, skirts, ect...
Other than my cleaning we have had some excitement in our neighborhood. We had to evacuate our neighborhood on Wednesday night because someone was making meth. Let me explain where I live. I live in Kentucky in a little college town. I live right outside the city limits in a subdivision filled with cookie cutter brick houses and swarming with children. I live barely a half mile from the grade school. To find out someone in this extremely quite neighborhood was shocking. I knew something was not right though because for the last few months a State Trooper has been parked in the church's parking lot. I live practically across the street from a small church. The Trooper had been there nearly every day. We were so use to him that I started ignoring him. Then On Wednesday the neighborhood was full of State and City Police, Sheriff's deputies and ambulances and fire and rescue. I had no clue what was going on until we were told to leave and that we couldn't come back for about 4 hours. The house in question was right at the thousand feet mark so we had to leave right away in case it blew up. I found out later that when they were serving the warrant the boys were in the process of cooking the meth. We didn't get home until about 11 that night.  Thankfully Mike's grandmother lives close so we went there and we could look out her window and see the lights so I knew when the scene was clear and we could go on home.  I have a friend who works for the County Attorney and she is having papers drawn up so we can have him charged with wanton endangerment for putting our families in charge hopefully we can get the families in the neighborhood to sign it so the boys will get more time is jail. My sister is a deputy in Johnson County and they just sentenced someone to 62 years in prison for making and distributing meth. My friend doesn't think our judge will be that tough but I hope they are even if they get an early parole I think giving them a good long time to think about their actions may help.

On a happier note Emmy has her third birthday on Next Wednesday and I am making bird nest cupcakes for her class. You make a cupcake and then color coconut green then place on cupcake and top with a peep. They are too cute.  Next weekend is her family party at McDonalds but we will have a Curious George cake. She loves that monkey.

Here is a picture of my girls on Spring Break we visited my mom who just had foot surgery. The girls loved riding in her wheelchair.
