Feeling Great! It's a boy!

May 10, 2007

I am sorry I have not written for a very long time. It seems like we always get swept up by each school semester and life is very hectic at times. My work computer also died, so that was a factor (that's been going on for the last four weeks or so--it was a slow fizzle). I have been feeling great, especially since I started drinking enough *water* a few weeks ago. I am no longer constipated, probably because of the water. What is it that makes it so hard for us to get enough water every day? I am not supposed to have water at my desk in the lab, but I have decided that my health is more important than the stupid official rules. I use very, very few noxious chemicals, and I almost never use them--there is no reason I should not be able to have water on my clean desk where I never have any lab work at all. Since I have tossed this rule out the window I've felt a lot better. Griffin had his endocrinology appointment a couple of weeks ago and his HBA1c (the amount of sugar carried by his hemoglobin in his blood) was under 8% again, which is just great. He is doing really well right now and has pretty stable blood sugars most days. I think poor Griffin is ready to be done with school for the year. He is really frustrated that in first grade math they are just now getting to simple addition (1 + 19), because he's been able to do that stuff for a couple of years now. It literally bores him to tears. But I think he is still loyal to the school he's at. Probably by third grade it will be really driving him crazy and we'll have to put him in a gifted school. Daisy has been keeping the laughter going in the family. The other day she said "Let's play the three little pigs and the big bad wolf. I call the brick house!" She also told Richard (dh) that he is "Handsome pathetic"--she saw someone call someone "pretty pathetic" on TV, and figured that since dad is a boy, he must be handsome pathetic. In recent weeks we have wrapped up the spring season of ballet classes, have started t-ball practice, have gone to a major league baseball game, have had the air conditioning in our car break twice (not a good sign), have gone to a ton of birthday parties, and we have had our big ultrasound and found out that it's a Boy! The ultrasound was also really good because the baby looks great! We got thumbsucking pictures and everything. He is healthy and just growing like crazy. I am one week ahead of my due date for size right now which is where I always seem to be. I have gained about 12 pounds which I am really happy about because I am shooting for under 35 pound weight gain this time. Even if I gained a pound a week from here to the end, I would only gain about 30 pounds total. So I am continuing to eat healthy. I switched from yogurt to skim milk at lunch because I was unhappy with the amount of extra sugar in the yogurts I was eating. I also am trying to avoid splenda and nutrasweet, so the light versions weren't good either. Upcoming events are a trip to see grandparents and then in June I get to go to Montreal for a conference. After that I won't travel far from home until the baby comes. I'll try to write a little more in the next few weeks.
