Bonnie's Diary Entries

All about Lore

Introduction

Okay, time for some serious catch up.  I apologize to all of you out there but truthfully there probably aren't that many (not that I blame anyone, I don't read many blogs/diaries that are updated as infrequently at mine) but, as I've reminded myself a gazillion times, I am doing this for me and my kids to create a record for them.  So I will persevere, although I think this entry is going to be a bit choppy as I absolutely must get some things down on paper (ha) before they are gone from my memory entirely.

First of all, Lorelei is on the move!  As I write this, she is rapidly approaching 10 months (my baby!  Where has the time gone) but I would say she progressed from the desperate messy (yet effective) squirming to 'official' crawling when she was about 8 months old (Ella was about 8 ½ months, so fairly consistent.  I know it's bad to compare you kids but I just can't stop myself.)  Now she is just a powerhouse in the crawling department and can easily cross a room in mere seconds.  Recently she has also added climbing stairs to her repertoire and JUST today she actually climbed all the way up to the second floor.  This particular time I was right next to her, ready to swoop in at any second, but I must admit there have been more times then I'd like where I have turned a corner to find her on the first or second step.  Ack!  My heart can't take this.  We have the baby gates up but I must be more consistent about latching them first thing.  Lore has such a knack for finding the most trouble she can get into in the shortest period of time.  Incredible, really, but hard to keep up with.  She can also pull herself up very easy and only recently is making small cruising steps.

Okay, what else?  Lore has her first tooth!  That little pearl popped out when she was about nine months (Ella didn't have any until 12 months.... Stop!  Stop comparing! You are setting them up to be scarred for life and hate each other... AHHHHHHH)  It's her bottom one on the left hand side and is just as cute as a button.  I think it's pair is coming through now.  I certainly hope so as she has been quite on edge lately.  Regardless of which teeth she does or doesn't have, she has been eating up a storm.  She is much more enthusiastic about food then her sister every was (there I go again) and manages to do well with all the broken up bread, cheerios, soft fruits and veggies and even bits of meat I give her.  She is still taking four bottles/day but usually doesn't finish all of them.

Lore's vocabulary is expanding to all sorts of babbling sounds which are just too cute to listen to.  She has moved beyond just repeating sounds and can come up with all sorts of variations on 'da da' 'na na' 'no no' and the such.  Her first 'word', said appropriately to the situation, was 'uh oh'.  Whenever she knocks or throws something on the ground (usually the latter) she will look at it, think for a bit and then sum up the situation with the cutest little 'uh ohhhh' ever.  It cracks us up.  I think she started that around nine months also.  After attempting to deny that she knew what she was saying for weeks, I have recently had to concede that her second word is Dada.  Actually, in her world everything that is good is 'da da' but she definitely says it much more to Jamie, often over and over to him when he comes home.  It is very sweet, even as it rips my heart out.  She doesn't even babble mama, so I'm not holding my breath....

Hmmm... other fun tricks.  She loves to clap her hands, she can wave bye bye and hello, she will throw her arms up in the air when you shout touchdown (Jamie taught her that one).  All the normal, adorable things she should be, but unique to her and very special to us.  The joy I get from that baby is just undefinable.

Oh!  And I should definitely record that she had her nine month well baby check up and weighed in at an even 18lbs.  I already forgot her length but I know that she was 60% for length and 40% for weight, so pretty average and a little slim over all.  I was surprised about the slim part since she eats so much but since she has been on the go it's true that the fat blobs that make up her legs aren't quite as round and squishy...

One funny little incident that took place a few weeks ago was going to get Lore a passport.  A passport, for a little baby!  So silly, but we are heading to Bermuda in a few weeks and, although technically I think we could have gotten by, I don't want to have to deal with explaining the loophole in the new rule (passport's not needed by boat travel until 2008) to some suspicious cruise agent (trust me, it would have happened).  Still, let me tell you, it was some effort trying to get a picture of Lore at just the right angle and size for a passport.  Not to mention that this little bald baby picture will be the one she uses for the next five years.  Ha ha.  (We got Ella one last year when she was four.   That one is pretty darn cute too.)

Trip to DC

Finally, on the subject of travel I absolutely must mention that we as a family had a fun but exhausting mini vacation to DC/Baltimore a few weeks ago.  It was Lore's first airplane ride and she did very well.  I'm sure it helped that the flight was really only a little more then an hour.  We were staying with a friend of mine from college and her husband in Baltimore for the first part of the trip.  We had a very nice time eating home made Indian food (yum!) exploring the Harbor and we went to the Children's Museum down there which was very nice.  The big event was when we took the whole family to the Red Sox- Oriels game.  It was Ella's first baseball game (since she was a baby) and she was quite excited but I have to say she did lose interest pretty quickly and preferred to goof around with us, which was fine.  It was way past her bedtime for most of the game so I was just relieved that she behaved, which she did.  We managed to get Lore to sleep for most of the game, although she ended up waking up when Wiley Moe Pena hit a grand slam to take the lead for the Red Sox.  I swear, there were more Red Sox fans there then Oriels' ones and the place exploded.  We left shortly after that but considered the game a success (this was the part of the trip I was most concerned with but the thing Jamie was the most excited about).

After two days in Baltimore we went to Washington DC.  I was excited to explore the Capital with Ella but I think she is still a little young to truly appreciate where we were.  Not to mention that we really pushed her walking and attention limits trying to fit in too much I think.  She was actually quite a trooper and I will totally give her credit for trekking miles with us and listening to me blab on about the various memorials and museums.  Her favorite part however was definitely the zoo, which I was going to skip but changed my mind as her eyes glazed over every time I mentioned presidents, government or history.

Still, a fun trip and an accomplishment, as we managed to coordinate and survive as a family of four on the go.  I will say, however, that I was completely exhausted by the time we got back.

Okay! I got some stuff down!  Very good.  I am going to post this and hopefully sometime soon (ha) I will give the latest and greatest on our eldest.  And us!  And spring!  Yay.

As always, thanks for reading,

Bonnie
