Still waiting
July 24, 2006
Well, Ella has been gone on her cruise a total of 1 ˝ days and I am a pathetic
mess, I am missing her so much. I really didn't know it would be this bad. I mean, I know I am addicted to my
daughter but I didn't realize quite how hard it would be to stop thinking about
her, wondering what she is doing all the time. Of course, it doesn't help that I know she is out in the middle of the
One very fun thing that we did prior to her leaving was to indulge in mother-daughter manicure/pedicure together. I know this sounds extremely extravagant and truth be told, I guess it was. But, as I've pointed out, I've been feeling sorry for myself due to (a) my inability to go on the cruise and (b) my daughter's ability to go. I thought this would be a nice way that we could both get a little pampering together that would set us up nicely for either cruising or delivering babies, both circumstances in which one would like to have good looking nails, in my opinion. Plus it gave me a way to feel more involved in Ella's trip, not to mention being a nice mom/daughter bonding thing, considering when she gets back, God willing, things will be very different around here.
Anyway, the mani/pedi was great. Ella was adorable. She had never done anything like this before and had a running commentary going the whole time ("The water is pretty hot... but I'll get used to it" "That scrub is kind of rough" "It tickles" "Mom, is he talking a foreign language?"). We even had tiny little petals painted on the nails. They really did look sweet in my opinion. A tiny bit over the top but she is going on a cruise so if not now, when?
The other thing I did to try to keep connected with Ella while on vacation was to give her a blank journal. I asked her to draw me a picture in it everyday of something that she did on the trip that was fun or interesting. Then we can go through it together later and hopefully I will get a more complete feeling of how her trip went. I really hope she remembers to do the pictures. I told my mom to remind her and it could be a precious memento. We'll see, I guess.
Fortunately, all this missing Ella has not meant that Jamie and I have not been
taking advantage of our kid free days. Yesterday we went and saw Superman Returns in 3D. I am not a big Superman fan and only thought the movie was so so. It was too long in my opinion, and the 3D effects were only for about twenty
minutes, when I thought it would be the whole movie. Then last night we went into
As always, thanks for reading!
Bonnie
PS—On a fairly unrelated note, has anyone out there been watching Treasure Hunters? With all our normal shows on summer break, Jamie and I have picked this one up and are really enjoying it, although I have to admit I usually spend much of the show feeling like I would be utterly lost if forced to figure out some of the clues these people have to. Some of the contestants don't seem like the brightest bulbs out there yet they've managed to get by so far, so I guess I would too eventually, but I'm not 100% sure of that one...
Finally, here is another picture of Ella down by my mom's lake on the Cape. As you can see, in her eyes a little wading in the lake is no reason for her to take off her Princess dress, nor, I suppose, is the wearing of a Princess dress reason to stay out of the Lake. Anyway, I love this picture because it does capture how much she loves to go through as much of her day as possible in all her finery.
