Carson's Endoscopy

September 20, 2006

I always have to give everyone a report, Carson had his Endoscope procedure yesterday morning, to investigate what might be causing stomach pain(again). He had that surgery last Oct(the Nissen Fundoplasty) because he had a hiatal hernia causing stomach pain and reflux. We had the surgery and it seemed like it worked.Well, over the last 6mths he's been complaining more and more of stomach pain. They decided to do another Endoscope to look inside his tummy for any problems. They took 4 pictures inside, 1) esophogus, 2) inside stomach, 3) top of intestine and 4) inside stomach again looking up twords the esophogus. The doctor said all the pics looked good, except #1. He said they noticed some bumps inside his esophogus and they took a biopsy of them. We'll get those results Thur or Fri. But from *seeing* them, he thinks they are irritation from allergies(either food or breathed in). So I am not sure what the next step will be, I'll get more info later this week on the next step.

But here is where it got fun...once we got home! The last picture is Carson once we got home, he kind of went down hill. He was very *out of it* would wake for only 10 min at a time and then back to sleep. Then he started sweating really bad, just soaking wet. He sat up at one point and tried puking(which he can't do anymore, since the *wrap* surgery, he can't puke) so he was dry heaving and sweating and falling asleep and then his fever shot to 103. We got a call back into the nurse, but no one called us back for 2 hours...finally they reached the doc, he said he would talk with anesthisiology, it sounded like a reaction to that....he called back and said to take him to the ER. We gave him Tylenol for the fever and headed back to Denver(during rush hour!). He tried puking again, no luck. Brett was on his way down as well, he dropped Jake off at his football practice and a friend of ours was going to bring him home later. We get down to Childrens, and I walk into the ER with 3 of my kids.....I couldn't believe how many people were in there, it was only 6pm! There were even people in there eating dinner, like they do this everyday(and I couldn't tell what was wrong with their boy, he looked fine...he was eating too!!)I bet there were about 50 waiting. I got all checked in(took forever) and we waited, there were no chairs at this point. Brett gets there and we look at Carson, he is looking alot better now! We debate if we should just head home, then they finally call us to get vitals(this is just the 1st check in station) his fever has broke, his breathing if good and he is awake now. I talk with the gal there and let her know we might head home, she said she didn't blame us, it was very crazy in there right now. Okay, we head home! On the way out, we actually run into the doc that sent us in(he did the procedure earlier). He looks at Carson, feels his tummy and says go home. If things get worse, or he goes back the way he was, come back.  On  the way home we had to swing by and get Jake after practice, then headed home for a sandwish, Carosn ate 1/2 and was ready for bed.  He did fine all night, had him sleep with me just to be sure.  So I think he is out of the woods, must have been a reaction to the anesthisa.  I should have know something was up, his nose was really itchy and his oxygen kept dipping after the procedure, but the nurse never thought anything of it.  I'll know for next time I guess!  And he did all this with a broken leg, poor little guy.  I think he's goign to be my *accident prone* kid, I think most familes have one.  But I better run, Jake has school next!!!  HUGS :)
