my plate is FULL!!!

April 20, 2007

We are becoming kinship foster parents officially! We had the boys over last Sunday, and will continue with Sunday visits until we get CRP/First aide certified on May 1st. Then we will start some over nights on Sat&Sun's. Then once school is out early June, they will move in. We still have to continue getting our foster parents license, but we can do that while they are here. Their mom is in jail again, they even had the story in the local paper and then on the local news, what a mess. I just hope we can help the boys salvage some of their life back. Their older sister won't be coming. We told her if she wanted out of the lifestyle they've been living in, we would help her, she could live with us and start fresh. She doesn't want to, she likes the partying, drinking....she thinks what her mom did was cool. Her choice is to live with another aunt or become imancipated(sp?).  We tried, I wish her the best and hope she can turn her life around and not end up like her mom.

I have also decided to take on the school and district as far as Jake's 504.  It's going to be a battle, but the 504 they gave me was rediculous, really.  I have hired an advocate(Rhonda) and she is advising me on each step and what to do.  I think we can do this, it will take lots of work, but we have the law on our side, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973...

Just this week the teacher set up a bean table without letting me know prior.  I was going to send in Jake's own beans to measure and play with, but then the assistant principal called and said that woudln't work with what they were doing(I went in later that day, he would have been fine with a bigger box and some measuring cups of his own!) but they asked if I wanted him to sit out of the lesson...again, he is not included, I'm sick of this.  I decided if that was the only option(since they didn't follow the 504 and check with me about pinto beans prior, if it was safe or not...which after searching, is a legume and related to peanuts....so NO).  They could have used rice, sand or even water to measure, but no one checked with me prior, as usual.  He needs a food-free room, of this will happen over and over and over.  And one of these times what they use is goign to cause a reaction, that is the only way the school will ever learn, something will have to *go wrong*.  Unfortunetly it will be my son to teach that lesson, that terrifies me.

Savannah is a crazy baby!  She is turning 15mths and she is crazy, really.  None of my kids were as daredevil as she is.  She pulls out chairsd to climb on top of the kitchen table. She pulls out skateboards and stand on the(then falls off and smacks her forehead)....wanna know how grey I am now, I have a heair appt next Tues!!!

Anyways, I hope to try and keep track of the foster parenting and the 504 as we move along with both.  It's hard to find time to write about each...but I will try!  HUGS
