A family of teachers...
September 10, 2006
I began taking college courses last week at a local college.
This is the same college my husband is attending to get his teaching degree. Guess what, I'm getting my teaching certification. We will both become certified elementary education teachers. We will have certification of K-6.
My daughter 'princess' is in kindergarten. She's doing well.
She has a rough first week. I had a rough week too.
My husband has been assigned to student teach and he went through the wring with his school. He had to go back and fourth because the director who was supposed to set him up had left the school. I am proud of him, he stood his ground and got his placement in the school of his choice. He loves it.
I am planning my strategy. I am jetting out of corporate america in the next 12 months. I have 5 courses to complete my state licensure in elementary education. I have to take the Praxis 1 test for my formal admissions to the education program.
Becoming a teacher is expensive. I cannot beleive with a national shortage of teachers that they are so picky. This new federal standard is difficult on our state because we have so many low performing elementary schools. My husband said many of the kids cannot read in his grade level. THis is very sad to me. I hold reading close to my heart. I beleive that if you cannot read it holds you back in so many ways. I read all the time for entertainment. I love the chick lit books.
Princess had a note sent home on the first day of school because she kept telling the teacher that she was too tired to do the pledge. Later that morning she was too tired to do something else. Then she started crying that she misses her daddy. This is something new. She isn't away from her dad for very long. She's very wrapped up in him and she is his world.
I'm off for now. I have some work to do and then my older brother is coming to stay with me. Him and his wife have diviorced and now he's moving on......
