Bridgett's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

10-25-06 Asher is 3.5 and growing up so fast....

October 25, 2006

I first off want to apologize for being MIA for so long. I really can't believe that it has been a month and a half since I have written over here. I guess I have been updating Joshua Teen diary first so that the entries go where they are supposed to, and then I run out of time by the time I want to write over here.

So the title says Asher is 3.5. Yes last Saturday he officially turned 3.5 and I just can't believe my last baby is growing up so fast. I think I have said many times that he is a very smart little boy. And I do mean little. He was having some allergy and asthma problems over the past couple of weeks, the month of October has been terrible for everyone around here that has allergies and asthma, so we had to take him to the doctor to get more of his Meds. Even fully clothed with boots on, the child just verily tipped the scales at the 30lb mark. So really, he is still under 30 lbs, about 28lbs if were lucky. Generally they say 2 lbs for clothing, but I think with his boots, jeans and long shirt that day it may have been more, but I will give him the 28lbs, thats a 1lb gain since his 3 yr check-up.

A couple weeks ago, Wednesday October 11th to be exact, I think, I took the training wheel off of Asher's bike and he rode it like he had been doing for quite a while. Brianna needed more Meds at school, and it was a nice day, cool but nice and the sun was out, so I told Asher we would just ride our bikes down to the school instead of starting the car up to drive the 1/2 mile there, which isn't good for the car anyway. It wasn't anything new or something I hadn't noticed from the time we got him the bike 6 months ago, but Asher doesn't even ride on the training wheels most of the time. We had both the bike from our neighbor earlier in the year before they moved. They had been trying to get their son to ride a 2 wheel, so they raised the training wheels pretty high off of the ground, so we had pretty much so left them that way, and Asher always did fine. The only problem he had was when he went on a slant he would fall over if he didn't lean way over the opposite way, which is the problem we had alot when riding around in the gated community out the end of our cul de sak.

Anyway, I was watching Asher riding as we went to the school and most of the time his training wheels did not even touch the pavement. So, when we got back to the house I told him I was going to take his training wheels off of his bike. I had bought a new seat for my bike, so I got the tool kit out of my van to put the new seat on. Asher at first told me no, he didn't want his training wheels off, but while I was changing my seat on my bike, he got the wrench and started trying to take the training wheels off his bike. He even had the correct size to do so, but he just wasn't able to get the nut loosened. So, after I was done with my bike I loosened the nuts on Asher's training wheels and he finished taking them off. A few moments later we got his bike helmet on put it on and then he was off on his 2 wheel bike. He wasn't sure of himself at first, and just kept saying "I can't, I can't". I of course had to get him on it and hold it while he started, but he pedaled out about 20 ft and then stopped, and said"see I can't". I told him Asher, look where Mommy is. I'm back here, and you are all the way up there.  He said no sir. I said yes, Mommy got you started and you pedaled all the way over there by yourself. He really didn't want to do it anymore and said he wanted a popsicle. I told him I would make him a deal. I knew he could do it, he just had, so I bargained with him. I told him if he rode all the way down to the end of the culdesak, that when he was done I would give him a popsicle. He said ok and jumped back on his bike. I once again held the bike up, his legs are not long enough to touch the ground and hold the bike up to get himself going, and he took off. He went all the way down to the end of the culdesak, which is 5 houses to the end and we all have about a 100 ft wide front yard, so that is a long way. He no only went to the end, but managed to make the turn around and came all the way back down to our driveway. I told him he could keep going and go all the way down to the end of the road, he quickly dropped the bike and got off and said no, he wanted his popsicle. BUT WOW!

A little later one of the neighbors came home and he was excited to go show the little boys, one that is his age and the other is 5, that he could ride his bike with no training wheels, so he rode back down to the end again and came back. A little bit later one of the other neighbor boys, that is almost 5 and is one of Asher's buddies, they have been the only 2 at home all day since the beginning of school, so anytime were out they are playing together. So he wanted to go down and show Gregory that he could ride his bike all by himself. Greg went and got his bike and the two of them rode around the cul de sak for about 15 minutes, then they came back over to the house and went to play on the swing set in our back yard. But it wasn't long until the kids started coming home from school, and he had to show each one of them that he could ride a 2 wheel bike, HE WAS SO PROUD OF HIMSELF! And Mommy was pretty proud of him also!! After all, he wasn't even 3.5 yet and he is riding around on a two wheel bike like its nothing. He goes in the grass over the curb and up the curbs into the slanted driveways and just everywhere. The only problem we still have is he just can't quite get going on his own because his legs are just too short. It isn't that he isn't trying, we have worked on getting the opposite pedal in the upright position and putting his foot on it and then pushing with the other until he can get going, but his legs just aren't long enough and the bike has to lean over too much, so it just doesn't work right. He has been riding all over the place and it is so cute that the older kids, the 5 yr olds in the culdesak will go over and hold him up so he can take off after he has stopped. They are a pretty good team.  I need to get him to get the bike to the curb or a step and show him how to get going that way, that is how Joshua learned to do it on his own and it worked great until he was tall enough to do it on his own.

There is of course a million other things that I can write about right now, but I need to get over and try to update Tyler's PreTeen diary, so I had better go before all the school kids start getting home and I have to tend to other things. Plus Asher is getting tired of being cooped up in my room while I'm doing this. But, I can't let him run wild through the house because you never know what he will get into. I'll try to be back again soon and give an update on Miss Brianna, who is doing wonderful in school as usual.

Thanks for reading!

Until Next time................................

God bless,
Bridgett and crew
