11/28/06 - Thanksgiving celebrations, Christmas preparations, and a new church
November 28, 2006
Our Thanksgiving was wonderful. Justin had a party at school last Tuesday, and then we had dinner at my husband's cousin's house with some other family there. It was really a great day until we got home and our overtired boy had a meltdown fit. Three-year-old behavior seems to be unpredictable and goes from one extreme to the other, which I'll likely discuss in another entry. Anyway I love being able to dress up and go out, probably because I don't do it very often. The kids had fun running around and playing, and there was lots of food and it was all really good. Before we left for Thanksgiving dinner, we put up the Christmas tree, and Justin was able to help decorate it this year, which was nice. Then he finally let me take some pictures after some protests, and I picked out my two favorites, which I will post below. We are using the one with Justin and the dog for our cards this year. I am trying to print some each day, so they will be ready to mail sometime next week.
Friday, we started shopping at 5am and finally got home after 3pm. I bought more than I had planned to for Justin, but it was fun and most of my shopping is now finished. I think I only need to get a couple more things. Now to just find time to start wrapping gifts and finish making ornaments and goody bags. Justin had by this time missed his nap for two days in a row and was completely exhausted. He had fallen asleep in the car on the way home, and I thought for sure he would be a tantrum waiting to happen when we got there. However, he was so tired that he stayed asleep in my arms when I carried him in and continued to sleep in my arms for a while. Then I put him on the couch with a pillow and he slept there for three hours. We debated on waking him up because it was getting close to bedtime, but decided we would rather have him up later and in a good mood than the inevitable screaming fit that would happen if we woke him too soon. This turned out to be a good decision, as he was in a great mood when he woke up, and went to sleep for the night about an hour later.
We started going to a new church this past Sunday. I'm not sure if I've mentioned before, but I participate in a Bible study with a few girls at work, and I've been reading the Bible every day for about six months. I have had Christian beliefs for several years, but just recently felt drawn to attend church. There were a few signs that came together for me and I felt that I needed to be there. The others in our Bible study are Christians as well, but we all come from different religious upbringings, and I feel that we were brought together for a reason. Anyway, it started with two of them attending this new church the week before I went. Then the next day, I was given a study Bible as a gift. Another day that week, Justin brought me his Bible and asked me to read it, which he hadn't done in a while. He brought it to school with him that day too. The night before Thanksgiving, I decided to read a chapter of The Journey, which I hadn't had time to pick up in a few months. The chapter I was on happened to be the one about going to church. I truly feel that all of these things were telling me that I needed to take my faith a step further and go to the church. I am so glad we went. It was just a wonderful atmosphere, and the people are so friendly. I did miss part of the sermon, because Justin sat with me during the music in the beginning and then decided to start running up the aisle. So I sat with him in the nursery for a while until he got comfortable and then went back to the service. I'm so looking forward to next Sunday and I feel it was perfect timing that I will get to enjoy the Christmas Eve service as well.
Thanks for reading!
Donna and Justin
