09/17/06 - Show and tell and a new addition
September 17, 2006
Justin was all better on Monday and able to go back to school. Then on Tuesday I got sick. I am just now starting to feel better this weekend, but I think Thursday was my worst day. I was hanging onto my desk trying to get work done, and I felt so nauseous I could hardly eat anything. I lost a few pounds too, I just felt awful. Friday was show and tell day at school. Justin decided to bring his new Build-a-Bear to show his friends. It is so cute to see how excited he gets about these things. Over the summer, they had a show and tell day too, and he brought a car book with a magnetic drawing board attached and couldn't wait to demonstrate how it worked. Saturday, we went to a nice Italian dinner at the aunt's house I mentioned last week. That was fun and the food was delicious. We brought some home too and had enough for dinner today and lunch tomorrow. She also gave me a few pictures of when my husband was a kid and I've scanned them, so we can give them back next time we're there.
Another exciting thing that happened on Saturday, is we had an estimate done to get a sunroom built onto our house! Long story short, we had thought about moving and started looking for houses, but got really scared of the prices. I know we could sell our house for quite a bit now, but it seems silly considering how little we bought it for. We were very lucky to have bought our house in 1999 when both real estate prices and interest rates were low, and before the prices skyrocketed to be completely ridiculous. I mean, for the price we would have to pay for a new house now, we could have had a mansion in 1999, they are that high in this area. I honestly don't know how first-time buyers afford houses anymore.
Anyway, back to the sunroom. Our house is small, a cape cod with one bathroom and two bedrooms downstairs. Upstairs there are two rooms, but it is so hot up there in the summer, it is more like an attic, so we use that area for our office/playroom/cat room. So we wanted more space that we could actually use all the time and the thought of an addition seemed like a nightmare to me, as I've seen some drag on for a year or more with the house torn apart in the process. Then we saw an ad in a magazine for sunrooms, and thought this would be a great idea. They go up much faster than a regular addition, and add value and beauty (and space) to the house. We would like to move the office into it along with some of Justin's toys. In one corner, I'd like to put a dining nook as well, so we can take the table and chairs out of our tiny kitchen. So we got the estimate for an approximate 13x15 foot room and have filled out the loan paperwork. If all goes well with the financial end, we will go to their office next week to see some model sunrooms and if we get any different ideas we can still modify our contract as we have not yet signed anything. I am really excited to get started on this!
Challenge update: The main theme last week was organizing the filing cabinet. I got a bit behind because of being sick for a few days and going to bed early and getting up late. I tried to catch up this weekend, but still have some filing left to do. Today's step was to write to some mail order houses to have my name removed to decrease junk mail, but I want to see if they have web sites first. If I can do it online, it would be easier for me.
Welcome to MomsToday to Brooke and Cierra! Looking forward to reading about you and your families!
Thanks for reading!
