08/13/06 - Another birthday party and a new challenge for me
August 13, 2006
Yesterday we went to a first birthday party for our neighbor's grandson. It was an outdoor party, and some of the kids were swimming. It was a nice day, but not really warm enough to swim, and Justin didn't want to. He surprised me by going on the trampoline though, which made me a little nervous. It was fun and the baked ziti and birthday cake was delicious. I think I really love going to parties for the food! No, I do like to spend time with our friends, but I look forward to the food too. Justin discovered candy for the first time (well at home anyway, I'm sure he's already had it at school parties). They had a paper mache Elmo full of candy, and all the kids had little plastic goody bags to scoop up their candy into. Luckily, Justin did not get too much, but he did eat some Skittles, and then he remembered for a little while that we had the bag of candy, which I had put into my backpack. I think my husband finished off the bag this morning, and Justin forgot about it and hasn't mentioned it, so that's just as well. I don't mind him having a little candy here and there when necessary, but I just don't want him addicted to sweets and junk food like his mommy, so I will try to minimize it as much as possible. On a side note, we went for a little walk around the neighborhood today, and stopped at a yard sale. I found a vacuum for Justin for $2 – how could I pass that up? He loves it.
My new project I am starting tomorrow is called the Change Your Life Challenge. It is a 70-day program to become more organized and make positive changes in your life. I will be taking the weekends off, so it will actually take me 14 weeks to finish instead of 10, but maybe that will make the changes stick better. I feel like I am always searching for some way to make things easier and for my life to flow better. Chaos really does drive me crazy, but I find sometimes it is hard to pull away from too. I had tried the Flylady program about a year ago, which is based on establishing routines and accomplishing things in small baby steps, and while it really helped me for several months, I could not seem to keep it all together. Since then, I have tried a couple of other things: an exercise routine and freezer cooking, with the same results. Sometimes I wonder if I truly do not have time, or if it is just a mental block for me. Justin is getting easier and I am able to get more done, and I know being organized and having a healthier lifestyle makes me a happier person. So here I am starting over and hoping I will at least have fun in the process if nothing else.
A couple of notes to my fellow MomsToday writers. I would like to offer a huge congratulations to Bonnie and Kate! It is so wonderful to be a part of this community in which we have all taken part in the miracle of life, and it fills me with joy to hear your exciting news.
