06/18/06 - Happy Father's Day, our monthly retreat, and the last tooth

June 19, 2006

Today was a nice Father's Day.  The weather was sunny and hot and we spent a lot of time in the little pool – our first swim of the season.  Justin didn't want to go in the pool at first, but once he did he loved it.  He had a plastic cup that he kept filling with water and pouring on us!  I bought a floaty tube thing for him, but I ended up using it more than he did.  We made hotdogs on the grill and just relaxed most of the day.  Justin took a nice nap too, about an hour and a half.  Lately his naps have been getting shorter, less than an hour.

Our monthly retreat was yesterday.  Once a month or so, a friend babysits Justin for the day, so we can have some time to ourselves.  We started this when he was 16 months old.  By that time I was so exhausted and sleep-deprived, I was desperate for my own time (no, work doesn't count!).  Don't get me wrong, I love this boy more than anything in the world, but he is demanding and strong-willed and most days are a struggle to get the simplest things done.  I'll write more about that another day.  Anyway, our day off was good.  I didn't get everything done that needs to be, but I don't think I ever do.  I did get the bills paid, so that is a step in the right direction.  We went to the piercing shop (I have my navel pierced) and bought a new jewelry for that.  They had to put it in for me, because it is not completely healed yet, although it's been a few months.

Justin's last molar finally started coming through last week.  He will have all his baby teeth and teething will finally be over!  He was really cranky for a few days, so I'm hoping it gets better from here.  I have a couple of short videos that I'll share.  One was taken around his second birthday (sorry it's sideways), and the other one a few weeks ago when he spontaneously decided to read a book to me.  Hopefully this link will work!
