05/19/2007 - Happy Mother's Day!
May 19, 2007
Mother's Day
As it has been for the past few years, Mother's Day was wonderful. We didn't
do anything exciting or different, but just the fact of celebrating that I was
able to become a mom is exciting enough for me. I can still remember those Mother's
Days when we were trying to have a baby and even before that, full of a mixture
of hope and sadness at the same time. I wanted so badly to have Justin, and with
all the crazy behavior and things he puts us through, that stuff is truly insignificant
when I really think about the gift we have been given in being parents. Thursday
night, he was fooling around with my digital camera and broke it, so I bought
a new one on Saturday. Sunday we ate some ice cream at home and blew some bubbles
and just had a nice day. He sang the Sunshine Song to me and I got a video of
it on my new camera. At school, Justin made me a beautiful card, hand print mold,
and a little box of hugs and kisses candy.
New Business
On May 1, I was asked to be a partner in a startup business. It is quite exciting
for me, because I had tried to start a business once by myself, but since I was
working full-time and could not leave my job I really didn't have enough time
to devote to finding new clients. This business provides dressed up characters
for children's parties. Things are moving along nicely so far, and we already
have parties booked for June. What's nice about doing this as partners is that
we can each bring our own skills, work on the time that we are each available,
and together we seem to have everything in place that we will need. I work weekdays
and she works on weekends (at our current jobs), so we both have different times
we can devote to the business. The only problem we're having right now, is finding
a time when we can both be at the bank to open a checking account.
Justin News
We had a birthday party to go to for a boy in Justin's class who turned three.
That was fun and it was the day I got my new camera, the day before Mother's Day,
so I got to try it out right away. At school, they had a fireman come in and
he came home with a plastic fire hat and a coloring book. He was really excited
about it and has been talking about firemen ever since. He has been spending
mornings in the preschool class and he loves playing and learning with the older
kids. He's learning to trace letters. In July, he will move to the preschool
class full-time. He will go from being the oldest on the daycare floor, to being
the youngest on the school floor. I'm sure it will be a bittersweet moment for
me the day I drop him off in his new class for the first time. I'll have to remember
to bring my camera.
Thanks for reading!
