Boy, what did life feel like with sleep? I’m feeling like we’re back in infancy when sleep was at such a premium. Erika used to be such a good sleeper and for the longest time she used to go to bed voluntarily. Right now, we’re fighting her about bed time every step of the way and for a while there, she was waking up every night. I think she was getting nightmares or just plain afraid of the dark. As a result, I’m one tired, grumpy Mommy. I’m hoping it’s a stage she’s going through like any and all of the other stages. But how long will this one last? Who knows…………
But on the fun side, we’ve got so much fun with her now that her vocabulary is really taking off. It’s amazing what she comes up with and how her sentences are starting to come out. A few fun anecdotes are: Everything is “No Thank You” right now when she doesn’t want to do something. “Let’s put your jacket on”, “No Thank You”, “Lets get some shoes on”, “No Thank You”. You get the picture……… Potty training is going well but the hilarious part is when she demands to go to the potty and then she sits there and gives me this look and says “Coming, it’s coming………..”. Sometimes, that’s the truth, sometimes it isn’t. J I think potty time is often just an excuse to take all the clothes off and postpone bed time some more. There are many other fun learning to talk stories but I’m not remembering any of them right at the moment – I’m tired.
Erika is learning early that kitty cats need their breakfast every day. We’ve started a routine of letting her help us feed them in the morning. We go down the steps to the basement where the cat food is located. Erika picks up the bowl with the dry food and I pick up the plate with the old wet food. We bring it up together and Erika gets to fill the dry food bowl up (with a little assistance from one of us). I (or Evan) dish out the wet food and then we go back downstairs to put the food down for them. All the while, Erika is very, very proud and keeps pointing out that she’s “helping”. Then she tries to entice Spice to come and get her breakfast and when Spice goes to eat, she lies in front of the door and looks through the cat door and is very happy to report that “Spice, breakfast, all gone”. She usually doesn’t see Patchy eat because Patchy still doesn’t want to come within 10 feet of Erika. I think it’s good for her to learn things like that though.
We’ve decorated a little bit for Halloween and Erika will go as a ladybug. We’ve just got some pumpkin lights up and a flashing pumpkin and a friendly ghost in the window. It’s all fun. I think we will have a lot of kids come by next week. This is our first year in this neighbourhood so I don’t know how many kids will come by but I think lots will come……
We had Erika’s ENT appointment at Children’s Hospital regarding her Adenoids. Nothing will be done about it at this time and we’re glad about that. The specialist, who is a nice guy, isn’t into intervention where he doesn’t see it necessary and he didn’t see any reason to do anything now so that’s good. It was just the one doctor in this one walk-in clinic who got us all worried and worked up about this……..
It feels like we haven’t been doing a whole lot as a family. It seems just day-to-day life sometimes takes over. Evan and I had our 6th anniversary at the beginning of October and we had a very nice dinner out while my Mom and Dad watched Erika. That was a lot of fun. Thanksgiving was a two-day event and we ate way too much. Last weekend we went to a Home and Interior Design Show and my Mom and Dad spent the afternoon with Erika but I didn’t really enjoy that show very much. Too many people and not enough of the type of displays I was interested in. Yesterday I found out that there was a quilt show going on the same weekend and now I’m disappointed that I didn’t get to see the quilts. I would have rather done that.
My quilting courses are so much fun. It usually turns into a late night because they run 7 pm to 10 pm but the store is so close to home that I’m home by 10:15 or so. I finished one course last night but I have lots of work left to do for that one on my own now. It’s a nice break away for me.
We still have lots of work to do at home. Finally, I have that sewing room of mine but I know really have to spend some time organizing it. I’m hoping to get the closet organized by putting in a shelf organizer system that will give me lots of little cubbies or shelves where I can put my yarn and my fabrics.
With this quick update, I should get back to my numbers. Work is still a challenge as it’s keeping me very busy.
