Uli's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 16, 2003

I wrote this entry last week but for some reason wasn't able to access this board through work at all. I couldn't log in to update the diary.

Today Erika turned 2 years old. It was a party.......... more next week. I'm exhausted.

September 16, 2003

Do you still remember me? I feel quite apologetic about being such a slow diary updater these days. Things always seem to come up. As many of you know, September is my most hectic month of the year. The worst is over now but I’m still very, very busy.

Can you believe it…. Erika is turning 2 years old on Saturday. She isn’t my little bear any longer. She is really starting to look like a big girl. Some days I cherish the fact that I’ve managed to get her this far and other days I could just sit there and cry and try to hold tightly to this little baby that she is no longer. She is growing up so fast.

Erika’s birthday party is on Saturday. We’re inviting mostly family and some close friends over to the house. We’ll be having dinner and cake. Shelly, one of Erika’s daycare teachers actually baked Erika’s cake. Evan is bringing it home from daycare tonight. It’s frozen right now and I will decorate it on Friday night. It’s a stand-up three dimensional teddy bear and I’m going to try and decorate it as a Panda bear. Dinner will be some appetizers, roast beef, garlic bread, Caesar salad and the cake for dessert. I think my Mom will also bring a cheese cake.

For Erika’s birthday, we’re getting her a toddler bed. We decided that we’d take that inbetween step before moving her to a big twin sized bed. Erika seems so small to me……

The terrible twos are here…….. well, they’ve been here for a little while but the last week some interesting changes happened to my little girl. She went from voluntarily going to bed every night and never saying a peep once she was in her crib to this screaming toddler who won’t go to bed until she actually falls asleep with us. We’re back to the infant stages when it comes to bed time. We’ve tried to let her cry for a while but she gets herself so upset that we don’t have the heart to leave her. We hope that it is just another phase that she’s going through. This will make the transition to her toddler bed interesting but we’re not pushing that on her. I think we’ll introduce the bed very casually to her.

Colouring is one of Erika’s favourite activities right now and she is talking up a storm. Sometimes some of the new words that come out of her mouth are just precious. She repeats absolutely everything we say and is also starting to string some words together.

Next Saturday we’re also starting back up with her music classes. I’m really looking forward to that and I think Erika will enjoy them as well. I get such a kick out of playing the “guess that song” game with her. The other day she was lifting her arms over her head and saying “Hale, Hale” and then clapping. I sure couldn’t figure it out but I knew she was singing a song. I asked at daycare what the song might be and Erika was singing a little Halleluja song that I’ve known all my life so now I was able to sing it with her and she just loves it.

Oh, and I just have to record that Erika is absolutely addicted to the Wiggles. She knows each of their names and runs around saying “Doroty, the “saur”” all the time. She walks in the house from daycare and her first words are “Seaguls” – that’s how she calls them. Not a day will pass when they don’t have to be on the television and that’s why we have accumulated quite the collection. Adults just don’t have that same ability to happily listen to the same songs over and over again.

I’m not doing a whole lot for myself these days. I’m knitting a little when I get a few moments and I’m totally obsessed by my quilting projects. I certainly don’t get a lot of time to work on any of them though. I am going to take some courses on some quilting projects throughout October and November. Those will get me out once a week at night for a few hours and that will be very precious “ME” time. I’m looking forward to it.

Time to go for today.

Uli
