April 7, 2003

Happy Spring. Well, it’s raining buckets here today. I’m ready for some sunshine and some spring weather and trips to the playground with Erika.

First news first. We sold the house and we got the house that had made an offer on back in January. We’re very excited but now we’re in the middle of packing all our belongings. I find that hard. There are lots of reasons why I will miss our little cozy townhouse but there are more reasons why I’m looking forward to our new place. We’re moving on April 25th. That’s less than 3 weeks now.

Erika went to visit her Oma and Opa yesterday afternoon (my parents). She always has fun there and gets stuffed with sweets and cookies. Evan and I ended up staying for dinner and Erika wasn’t particularly hungry. I wasn’t surprised by that. Then, we all sat down in the living room and we were going to have a cup of coffee and some goodies. Erika was just hanging off her Daddy, ready to fall asleep. It had been a busy day. Well, my Mom brought in a plate of sweets and Erika bounced up on the couch and yelled out “Oh Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhh” at the sight of those goodies. We just cracked up laughing. It was too cute. She’s got my sweet tooth already.

Erika had her 18 month appointment and shots last week. She is 20 lbs 8 ounces and about 31 ½ inches long. She’s a lean, healthy girl and is growing quite nicely on her growth curve. She didn’t enjoy the shots though. She was very upset. All is fine now though.

Last week Erika started trying to learn how to jump. She knows the word jump and she tries to do it on command. It’s so funny to watch but hard to explain. She lifts up her heels but doesn’t quite get airborne.

We’ve been through a bit of sickness. Some tummy upsets, another ear infection, a cold etc. in the last month. I hope that some of this stuff will be behind us soon as it gets warmer out and we’re getting more and more into spring.

Erika has also started being very attached to certain objects. We have to take her baby or her teddy to daycare in the morning. As soon as she is there with all her other toys, she’s fine and forgets about baby or teddy but she really likes to have them with her on the way to daycare or anywhere else that we’re going. Related to that is another anecdote about her toys at daycare. Erika missed 3 days last week due to her tummy flu and cold. When I took her back on Thursday morning, she walked into her playroom, straight into the corner where the bed with the dolls is, uncovered the dolls and said “HI” to each of them and picked them all up. It was so cute because she was basically saying to them, “I missed you and I’m glad that I’m back and you’re still here”.

As for my journey to greater health and weight loss……….. I am working on it and I’ve lost a total of just over 12 lbs now. Last week was a disaster though. There was just so much going on at work and at home and with traffic and rush hour that I just didn’t quite manage to get any exercise in and that I didn’t watch it very much. Friday night we went out for dinner with my in-laws. I ate too much and I didn’t even really enjoy the food very much. I got into the Easter chocolates that we got from my mother-in-law and I ate way to many sweets at my Mom’s house yesterday. So as of today, I’m back on track with WW and back to counting my points and journaling. When you don’t do it all the way, it just doesn’t work.

Time for me to get back to work. I have lots to do especially because I’m planning on taking a week off around the time that we move.

Take care and have a great week (or month as it seems I don’t get a chance to update much more often than this these days).
