Is anyone still with me? I can’t believe I’ve been MIA for this long. And there isn’t a real excuse because being busy isn’t really it. As Moms, we’re all busy and have things on the go and lots to juggle. Some days I think about writing and then there seems to be so much that’s happened that it seems overwhelming to chronicle it all at once. I guess that’s where the lesson lies…… I should update more regularly. I write my diary in Word and then I copy and paste it into the publishing tool on our iparenting site. I do that so that I have an actual record of all my entries in one continuous file for future keepsakes. And then for a while, I wasn’t able to log into the diaries site from work. They must have firewalled something and then my entries started to become disjointed. My main file was at work but I’d try to write some entries at home. Frustrating to keep it all together and organized. But it seems that I no longer have trouble logging in so that’s a good thing.
Erika is growing up so fast…… in front of all of our eyes. I can’t believe how well she talks now. On Thursday she came home singing Happy Birthday so I asked her whose birthday it was and without thinking she said “Sue”. Sue is one of her teachers and her birthday was in January. I asked the next day at daycare whether they were celebrating anyone’s birthday the day before and they hadn’t done so. It must have taken Erika a good 3-4 weeks of thinking about this whole thing, refining it in her head and then singing Happy Birthday back to us. She’s been singing it all weekend.
Two weeks ago, she was really missing me while she was at daycare. So she looked out the window and asked Reenie: “Where’s Mommy”. Reenie said “Mommy is at work”. Erika said: “Mommy work?” “Where’s Daddy?” and Reenie said: “Daddy is at work, too”. Erika then said “Mommy, Daddy, work…………… long pause…………. Mommy Daddy work………. Buy toys, buy chocolate”.
Potty training is an interesting sport. At daycare she wears underwear most of the time except for naps. She does quite well. Some days she comes home without having had any accidents at all. Other days, she’ll have gone through 5 pairs of underwear. At home, she used to do just great. She wanted to go use the potty all the time. But in the last couple of weeks, we’re struggling with her at home. So, we’ve started imitating daycare and we set a timer for every half hour. When the timer goes, it’s time to sit on the potty and she knows it and she goes whereas without the timer, she just whines and complains.
Bath time has turned into bath/shower time. Evan gives her most of her baths and I was flabbergasted to see my little kid stand under the shower last night. Only a few weeks ago, she was totally freaked out about showers. Now they are great fun.
Work is going okay for me. It’s getting busier again and Evan is also very busy. I can’t wait for the nicer spring weather because I’m yearning to get out more and I’m yearning for the evenings to be lighter longer because I want to be able to take Erika back to the park in the evenings to play. It’s a good way to tire her out.
I’ve been doing lots and lots of knitting lately. I write a daily blog about my knitting adventures with a bit of quilting and a bit of everyday life thrown in. I have always wanted to keep a better chronicle of all my knitted and other crafty projects so this evolved out of that. Check it out if you’re into that sort of thing (but you must leave me a comment if you do drop by. J
No idle promises this time…………. I’ll be back soon.
