Tricia's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
July 20, 2003
Ah, what can I say? This moving (ha, or lack of rather) stinks. It’s just too much. Too much work, too much money. Summer is Chucks super busy time, job wise, so he has maybe 1 hour or two to work on our house, after finishing a ten hour day for himself. Additionally, I have three children all day, so it’s very hard to get over there. My sitters are pretty limited and hard to come by…..if this was going on during the school year, it would be a lot easier to find someone for just Sarah……but, three? A little bit difficult. ;-) But….I hate to sound like a horrible complainer, it IS exciting, and REALLY, we are ALMOST there!
The house was completely gutted, cleaned out, and framed out in a new design. From there, we had a new furnace (complete with ductwork) installed, new electricity run throughout the entire house, as well as all new plumbing. After that, the sheetrock was put up, and then Chuck had to tape the whole house (I think that’s that correct term, it is filling in all the seams and screw holes x 3 plus sanding) and that, I thought, for sure would be the end of my poor hubby. That will most definitely be his worst memory of redoing our house. I asked him if he feels proud to know he taped the entire house and he says “No!”
Next he laid the bathroom tile (beautiful ceramic tile with ornamentals throughout) and decided he would design his own countertop in the kitchen too, since the ones he liked were too expensive. (Um, this was after the bottom cabinets went up) Now we have a gorgeous marble tiled top that Chuck laid and grouted on his own for a fraction of the cost of any we could even buy. (I also think it’s nicer!). In between all this, the toilet, sink and bathtub went in and we were busy buying paint and choosing colors and picking out light fixtures.
Painting…….I really don’t like it. Ok, I think it would be safe to say I hate it. As far as the Wagner spray gun, well, it just didn’t work in our rooms. I think it is more designed for really big jobs. (Yes, I actually did have a fit that I couldn’t use it). Everything was primed white, and we really wanted color in all the rooms and our bathroom was the first to be tackled. The tile was a creamy tan (with sand colored grouting) with greenish sage colored ornamental seashells tiles throughout. Chuck picked out a gorgeous blue shade for the walls as he wanted a whole seaside theme. (Our house is a block up from the shore). The blue represented the sky and the floor represented the shoreline. Nice idea, but I didn’t like it. I wanted the walls to match the green in the tiles, so I went and chose a nice coordinating color. It was actually named “Foamy green sea” so DH was happy with that. It stunk to have to paint the bathroom over….but, it looks great now though!
Next came Charles’ room. He was adamant about having it being done in blue, and Chuck painted some neat wavy-like ocean waves for the ceiling in a darker color. It looks fabulous. Chuck also painted CHARLES on one wall, but then decided to paint over it. I have been calling him “Hilde” since that crazy idea. LOL (Any Trading Spaces fans reading?) I painted the girl’s room a pretty light pink, with a baby blue ceiling. (Chuck’s idea, again). Next came our room. All DH talked about was a lavander and blue room he once saw on “While You Were Out”. So, I painted the walls a light purple, which came out horrible, but then, you guessed it, Chuck, had a solution to that too! LOL LOL He used a sea sponge and applied a darker plumish-grayish color all over my purple painted walls. I love it! The ceiling is done in just the solid, darker color, as is our little hallway. We’re going to get some plain bedding now. What do you think? Cream? Gray?
Onto the hallway and foyer….we are painting that in a textured rosey-coffee-taupy color, and I still need to strip the banister on the stairway and we are carpeting the stairs in Berber. The kitchen is painted “Belgian Waffle” and has natural colored wood cabinets (though we have not been able to purchase the top cabinets yet) and a gorgeous wood paneled ceiling from the 1920’s that we are leaving. Our fridge will be recessed, and we just bought our new stove! Chuck is laying the tile this week (forgot what he even got, but I’m sure I’ll like it) which will be the same tile in the foyer (I think?).
The Living Room and Dining room, which we are not using as a dining room, but combining the two rooms to be comfy and cozy with our new furniture (not yet bought, hahaha) and computer desk, will be painted two colors. A darker coffee taupe color on the bottom, with a coordinating, lighter color on top. Chuck wants to add a stripe of the foyer and hallway color in between, but we are still undecided on that. The ceilings will be done in small popcorn texture with big coarse glitter added into the paint. I stole that idea from a friend’s new house, it may sound juvenile, but it really looks great!
We also have a nice, finished, rather large front porch and laundry room that we haven’t touched yet. We bought, and Chuck is installing and staining all the doors (six paneled pines and a pretty french door for the foyer plus new front and back door) this week and then the carpet is getting installed! Next he will sand and refinish the gorgeous original wood flooring downstairs in the Living room and Dining room and then we can MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wowee!!!!!!!!! I can’t believe I was PG with Sarah when we purchased it and we are FINALLY, FINALLY moving. I think one of the hardest things about it (besides the money, hahaha that’s an understatement) was other peoples comments at times. Of course I don’t mean kind inquiries, but the constant “Oh My God, You HAVE NOT MOVED YET? When do you think you will be in, maybe before Christmas THIS year?! What’s taking so long?!!!” and on and on and on……..
I’ve also been busy mowing the lawn in between (without falling into any wells) and endlessly cleaning and packing up here. It is very hard to fit all that I need to do into a day, especially with Charles and Lyssie out of school for the summer. I’ve decided that I need to be less fun of a mom. LOL When I walk in to the house after my morning shift just after 9am, they are usually all dressed and ready to go, asking what we are doing for the day. We usually bum around town going to the beach, local parks, farmers market, walks, bike riding, swimming, or go to friends houses for the day. When we have a little money to spare (lol, and I mean LITTLE), its carnivals and Maritime centers and various day trips. Our swimming pool is STILL not warmed up enough yet due to our crazy late started summer, so Sarah doesn’t last for more than 5 minutes in it, and I hate it cold also. Charles and Lyssie will swim around with blue lips and insist it’s warm though. ;-)
The kids are all doing great, and Sarah is getting such a little personality, lol. She will be 18 months this week. Unbelievable! Her and Lyssie and Charles play fabulously together. ;-) They think everything she does is just the cutest thing in the world. Recently, she started using the word “Mine!” She will run up to Charles, grab one of his cars and exclaim “Mine!” while hugging it to her chest. She does this to get everyone’s attention~ LOL! One time I was busy cleaning up, so she went over and found a paint roller and walked up to me shouting “Mine!” LOL She says “Please, thank you, Love you, ‘night, bye bye, daddy, mommy, Charles, Lyssie, doggie, kitty, ball, pee pee, and many others. Everytime some one goes into the bathroom, she has to go in as well and sit on her potty. She then holds her hand out for some toilet paper and wipes each time. (through her clothes). Once, while we were eating at a restaurant, I handed her a napkin to wipe her face and she started wiping her private area, lol. She is very aware of going pee, and will tell me by laying down so I can change her. She has also sat on the potty lots of times while naked, but has yet to actually go into the potty. She will usually pee on the floor after standing up!
She is still co sleeping and breastfeeding, although, while we are out all day, she has slowed down her nursing a lot during that time. One time at the beach though, she did not want to wait any longer for a nap and some milkie. She sat on my lap and tried lifting my bathing suit. Well, it’s a one piece and that doesn’t work. So, she patted my boob and said “Peease?” I offered her a juice cup and she shook her head no. Sarah then laid down on the towel, looked up at me and said “Peease?” (We always nurse in the laying down position for naps.) Well, that did it for me, lol. I sat her up and discreetly nursed her at the crowded beach. It’s funny, I was never, ever comfortable nursing in public and don’t even think I ever did with Charles or Lyssie, and here I am nursing a toddler, no less, everywhere! LOL I am not going to make my daughter wait just so I won’t embarrass others, and I am just so darned sick of people thinking that nursing someone her age is “weird”. I just love it when my friends tell me I can still get away with it because Sarah is so small and still looks like a nursing baby. (insert sarcasm here.)
Oh well.
One new pic here! Please try to copy and paste, I know it’s long, but, it’s cute!
