12 November 2003: Ryan – 23 months

Hi there everyone

Just a quick update to say I’m still alive amidst all this chaos that is my workplace. Things are crazy with preparations for the 3 day conference that starts this Friday – eeek!(sound of panic starting to set in). There is so much ‘background’ work to get done to ensure it runs smoothly and I am happy to say that I am finally getting some help. I will be required to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7.30am – 5.30pm so apart from thinking I won’t get to spend much time with my sweet boy, I’m also thinking about the overtime! Or else I’d scream.

ZZZZZZ – TYPING WITH MY EYES CLOSED HERE
Speaking of my sweet boy, he’s doing just fine but we’ve been having a few restless nights just lately. On Monday night he woke FIVE times through the night (crying), last night he woke twice. I’m tired! I’ve gone through the whole list of possible causes of his night wakings and I think the most likely culprits are the 2 year molars. I’m having a devil of a time getting him to open his mouth so I can get a good look. Let’s hope tonight is better for him (and me). I say ‘me’ because although DH gets up to Ryan (we take turns), I seem to cope with it better and he gets so grumpy with lack of sleep – sometimes I think it’s just not worth the hassle of him getting up, you know? I know the lack of sleep is a MAJOR factor in him not wanting to have another baby but really, it doesn’t last forever and things DO get better. Generally Ryan is such a good sleeper so I know whatever is happening right now won’t last long.

CHATTER BOX
I wrote a few entries ago about Ryan’s speech or lack thereof. Well, he is really starting to take off in the speech department. We read to him often and concentrate on getting him to repeat words and things are really moving along now. Much of his speech is still not very clear but he is definitely getting the hang of it! I will mention it at his 2 year check-up. I am quite confident that he doesn’t have a hearing problem but it’s worth investigating just to be sure.

ON THE BRINK OF 2
Ryan will be 2 on 29th of this month! We are planning to have a small celebration with family and close friends. If it’s anything like his 1st birthday, I will spend the day on the brink of tears – I found it very emotional when he turned one! I just can’t believe this little boy is turning 2, our little fellow who has brought so much happiness and laughter into our lives. Sure, this little person make me tear my hair out at times but when he snuggles up to me and closes those blue eyes when giving me a hug, it is all worthwhile.

FUNNY THINGS
Ryan makes us laugh all the time. He LOVES music and his current favourite song is ‘Where is the Love?’ by Black Eyed Peas. He stands in front of the TV and bobs up and down and if he hears it on the radio, he looks at me, grins and starts bobbing his head up and down! We had the top 40 on the TV the other day and some 50 Cent song came on and Ryan started dancing and grooving so he has earned the nickname 10 Cent!

More appropriate music for little ears is the Bob the Builder soundtrack which is a regular in our car. He loves to shout out ‘YES!’ when Bob asks ‘Can we fix it?’ ‘Can we mend it’ ‘Can we build it?’ MAJOR Bob fan, our little boy. He has a Bob clock on the wall in his room but we had to take out the batteries because it was the LOUDEST clock you’ve ever heard. TICK! TOCK! (think major decibels!!) So Bob is now for decorative purposes only.

I will write a longer entry after things have settled down at work, just wanted to post a short update this week to let you know I’m still around. Please drop by my board to say hi, it feels like a letter in my mailbox every time I see a new post!

Until next time!
