Colon Care

Finding Regularity Again
After Giving Birth

By Laura Cone

Micozzi has observed that women do not drink enough quality, clean water. "If water and more fiber does not help them get their bowels in the position they would like them to be, they could check with their doctor or midwife if they are nursing and see what supplements are allowed," she says. "You can't just take any supplement when you are nursing."

Many women complain the pain of feeling constipated after labor is nearly as unpleasant as labor itself. One of the best ways to avoid becoming constipated after delivery is by consuming high-fiber vegetables and drinking plenty of water.

Colon Massage

Nancy Adams, a colon hydrotherapist in Coos Bay, Ore., says she often gives her clients "homework." If you feel you are a little sluggish, Adams suggests taking a tennis ball when you first wake up in the morning and trying the following exercise:

1. Lie on your back.

2. Put the tennis ball inside the right-hand hip crest.

3. Push the tennis ball in a little and roll it around, making a clockwise movement, up to the waist, across and down to the left-hand hip crest.

4. Continue to massage yourself with the tennis ball by repeating a few times.
