Bag It!

Keep Organized By Carrying Only What You Need

Lighten the Load
If you experience pain in your shoulder or your back, your heavy bag may be the culprit. "Women are especially vulnerable to persistent back pain due to their varied responsibilities, including taking care of children and family, household management and outside employment," says Dr. Winifred D. Bragg, a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Orthopaedic Associates of Virginia in Norfolk, Va.

Lugging an over-stuffed diaper bag and heavy purse is asking for trouble. "When you must carry a heavy purse or bag for a long period of time, shift the bag occasionally from side to side or carry your items in a backpack," says Dr. Bragg.

You may feel like you're forgetting something after you have pared down the items in your bags. But eventually you'll get used to the lighter load.
