Learning the Different Holidays Through Crafts By Kymberly Pratt
To assemble, simply stick the orange and yellow tissue paper inside each tube so half of it sticks out the top and looks like a lighted candle.
You'll need:
Black construction paper
Chalk
Hairspray
Here's what you do:
Fill each piece of construction paper with a pattern of colorful designs and shapes. Each sheet of paper can have a different design. After making several, lightly spray each sheet with hairspray this will help the chalk adhere and not come off on little fingers as they are touched.
After the sheets are sprayed, you are ready to display them. Rangolis are traditionally placed on the floor to encourage a Hindu goddess to enter the home.
You'll need:
Large wooden craft sticks
Uncooked macaroni
White tacky glue
Gold spray paint
Magnet
Here's what you do:
Glue the wooden craft sticks together in the shape of a cross. Let them completely dry. When dry, put some glue on top of the craft sticks and help your child place macaroni on top of it. After the glue is completely dry, take the cross outside and cover it completely with the gold spray paint.
You'll need:
Small Styrofoam wreath
Red, green and black tissue paper
Pencils
White glue
Disposable bowl
Scissors
Here's what you do:
Cut several small squares of red, green and black tissue paper. The size does not need to be exact, but cut them about 2 to 3 inches square. You will need a lot of them!
Pour a small amount of glue in the disposable bowl. Take a small square of tissue paper, and wrap it around the tip end of the pencil. Dip it into the glue, and push it into the Styrofoam wreath. Continue to do this until the front and sides of the wreath are full. After it is completely dry, just push it onto an existing nail to hang.
