Festive Table Crafts
Bring a Homemade Touch to Your Holiday Feast
By Laura M. Johnson
Your child can help you create a festive and colorful holiday table this year. From our Paper Wad Snowmen to Winter's Harvest Placecards, your little one will take pride in sharing her handiwork with your family and friends at every meal.
Caution: Watch your child carefully when completing crafts that include small pieces or sharp scissors.
Holiday Card Placemats
Save the holiday photo cards you receive from friends and family this year to create an engaging and colorful placemat for your child to enjoy throughout the year.
You'll need:
- Sheet of poster board
- Holiday photo cards
- Glue
- Scissors
Here's what you do:
Cut the poster board to your desired mat size. Cut, place and glue your holiday photo cards to the poster board on both sides. It will take some maneuvering to get the cards to fit; you can fill in any holes with your family's holiday photos. Have the mat laminated at a local copy store. Your child will love seeing and talking about the happy faces of his or her friends and family at every meal.
Paper Wad Snowmen
Create a snowman scene for the centerpiece of your holiday table with a Paper Wad Snowman. Little fingers love to wad paper, and you'll love having an inexpensive option for decorating your table.
You'll need:
- 2 sheets white poster board
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Stapler
- 18 sheets white tissue paper
- Sheet of black tissue paper
- Sheet of orange tissue paper
- Glue
- Clay pot (approximately 6 inches tall) with a hole in the bottom
- Dowel (with diameter of size that will fit snugly through hole in pot)
- White batting
- Optional: Styrofoam square
