Cold Weather Got You Down?
Practical Tips for Surviving Winter with an Infant
By Jennifer Ray McCluskey
The monotony of motherhood can get to us all. Try to alleviate some of the inevitable redundancy of caring for an infant by planning different activities for each day of the week. This will keep the days from "all blending together." For example, Monday is grocery day, Tuesday is your playgroup, Wednesday you spring for a babysitter for two hours, etc. Depending on how much this appeals to you, you can also apply this concept to how you spend your baby's naptimes.
Witness any toddler's behavior in a restaurant, and you will quickly realize how accommodating your baby actually is for now! Take advantage of this time when he is still immobile and happy to be anywhere you are by getting out of the house and frequenting some of your favorite spots. Museums, bookstores, coffee shops, restaurants and shopping malls can all accommodate strollers, so enjoy yourself! Hint: A warm parked car is a perfect, private place to nurse your baby, so don't feel like you can only escape the house in two-hour intervals.
