Good Mothers Do Have Sex
Tips for Mixing Parenthood and Passion
By Sue Marquette Poremba
Good communication acts as a wonderful aphrodisiac. Keeping in touch with each other in little ways throughout the day makes it easier to touch each other at night. Linda Dupie of Fredericksburg, Va., says that she and her husband of 13 years send e-mails back and forth during the workday. "It's sort of like teasing but done with love," Dupie says.
After 23 years of marriage, Lisa Easterling of Brandon, Fla., says that she and her husband will still write messages to each other on their bathroom mirror and regularly send each other love notes.
Non-verbal communication can act as a secret code between couples. Easterling says she and her husband will wink at each other across a room. Ann Marie Garcia of Alhambra, Calif., admits that her husband likes to hold her hand while driving. Without using words, these women know that their husbands like being close to them.
Laughter also brings couples close together. Garcia, Easterling and Evans all list laughter as one of the most important elements in keeping passion alive. First of all, couples that are laughing aren't fighting. Second, laughing together tends to form a bond. It means you are on the same wavelength. You could be laughing at the same part in a movie or it can signal a private joke between you.
"My husband and I are known for our dry sense of humor," says Dupie. "Early in our relationship, I would call him on the telephone using a Southern accent and sweet talk. Over the years, as friends and family figured out what that accent meant, they actualy became jealous because of the laughter and intimacy my husband and I share. And we tend to share a lot through our senses of humor."
