Hits the Spot!
Dr. Sheldon Levine's Seven Minute Miracle
By Carma Haley Shoemaker
"By concentrating the exercises on one area, you also concentrate where the adrenaline and other chemicals go and work," Dr. Levine says. "When you work out your whole body, the adrenaline and other chemicals are not directed to one area, meaning you'd need to work 10 times harder and longer to get the same results as you do with spot reduction."
Dr. Levine states that there are several aspects of genetic weight loss – or spot reduction – that need to be known and understood.
1. Random exercise does not cause spot weight loss.
2. Exercise combining and exercise sequencing does.
3. Too much exercise increases appetite.
4. The increase in appetite is for carbs and fat.
5. Seven minutes of intense exercise decreases appetite.
6. Walking does not cause weight loss.
7. What you eat after exercise can slim you down.
8. Eating the wrong foods after a workout puts weight on.
9. Most fat burning occurs after, not during, exercise.
10. A 40-minute food pause after exercise boosts weight loss.
Once you know and understand these "pillars," then the concept behind the program will seem just like common sense.
Dr. Levine shares that there are five tough genetic areas, which are called "The Five Hot Spots." They are thighs, hips, belly, butt and arms. "The Hot Spots are hibernating," Dr. Levine says. "They are essentially asleep. But by eating and exercising in a certain fashion you not only wake your genes up, you can actually reprogram them to allow fat to leave the fat cell easier."
