Picture Perfect
Fun Crafts to Show off Baby's Smile
By Kymberly Pratt
Because thumbtacks are small and can be a choking hazard, supervision is a must with this and all the projects.
You'll need:
Canvas bought from a local craft store, any size
Fabric scraps
Quilt batting
Rick-rack or ribbon
Hot glue
Thumbtacks
Picture hangers
Hammer
Staple gun
Here's what you do:
Cut the fabric and quilt batting about 3 to 4 inches larger all the way around the canvas. (Note: Make the quilt batting a little smaller than the material if you prefer.) Lay the canvas to the top of the batting and begin pulling it tight and stapling it to the underside of the canvas. Then do the same with the material, being sure to pull it tightly too. (Tip: Start in the middle of the top and bottom and work to the outsides.)
Here's what your child can help you do:
Let your child help you lay the rick-rack or ribbon in a design. The pattern can be diagonal, squares or just up and down lines. Help your child glue the ribbon into place. When done, turn the canvas over and place a thumbtack in the intersections of the ribbon. This will hold the ribbon right and allow them to hold the pictures you will place on it. A dot of hot glue can also be added for more security. Attach a picture hanger to the top. Hang the memo board on the wall and use to display family pictures.
Note: Because of the thumbtacks used, be sure to hang the memo board high enough that your toddler cannot touch it.
