What Star Dads Know About Parenting
Celebrity Fathers on How to Be a Great Dad
By Dr. Laurie Nadel
When Robin Williams takes his family on vacation, he insists on one rule: "No technological stuff." As you might expect, this is not the kind of rule that makes him popular with his children. At least, not at first.
"Within a day, the kids will actually be reading, playing games and going outside to have fun with their siblings. Imagine," Williams says.
Williams is among those celebrity dads whose child rearing advice runs the emotional gamut from blunt to funny and even downright poignant. Their ideas on the subject, along with guidance from mothers who also happen to be famous are compiled in What They Know About Parenting! Celebrity Moms and Dads Give Us Their Take on Having Kids (Hay House, 2007) by Cindy Pearlman with Jill Kramer.
Articles on how to parent are a staple of many women's magazines so it is refreshing to read interviews by guys for guys on how to come up with fun ways to prevent your offspring from lying or killing each other in the back seat.
Here are some highlights:
At an airport stopover, Danny DeVito was sitting on the floor playing with his three young children when he was approached by one of his comedic idols, the late Red Buttons.
