Busy?
Not at the END OF THE YEAR
(Cue Sarcasm)
(Cue Sarcasm)
By Lori Keenan
I could be forgetting something, and will have requisite hell to pay for doing so, since this is off the top of my head for actual events on my calendar – mostly happening this weekend! Trade your lacrosse/hip-hop/ice skating for our baseball and I'm sure you're right up there with us in terms of shocking numbers of activities and imperative attendance for "END OF THE YEAR" events.
My daughter's dance school actually said that she wouldn't be able to participate in the "END OF THE YEAR" recital if she missed another class. Unsure whether this was a threat or a promise, she attended the balance of her classes – carpool conflicts notwithstanding.
Of course, in the bedlam that our life becomes at "END OF THE YEAR," there are definitely moments – the brief and glimmering instances of joy in my children's expressions as we are not only in attendance, but looking like a cross between the Channel 2 News and the Paris paparazzi with digital, film and video cameras around our necks to pixelize their glee for posterity's sake. For those without the camera equipment, a DVD will be available for purchase in the lobby after each event. For only $30.
If time could stand still for me, I could maybe take an instant to capture these fleeting moments in my mind and savor them, because, like the adage threatens, it's over before you know it. But, I can't. Not today anyway. Today I'm in charge of "SNACK."
