Toddlers and Amusement Parks
Tips for Having a Great Time with Your Toddler at a Theme Park
By Mark Stackpole
The park also has a roller coaster, ferris wheel and carousel that are just the right size for your toddler. Just look for the actual train cars that form the front gate – and don't forget to go inside and get a feel for what it is like to ride in an iron horse.
If you are looking for a slightly different train experience, perhaps you should talk to Sir Topham Hatt, the Superintendent of Sodor's railroad. Never been to Sodor? Your children have, and they all rode the same train in order to get there. The home of Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends, the island of Sodor is now accessible by kids and families everywhere.
Six Flags New England in Springfield, Mass., and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, Calif., have added Thomas Town to their list of attractions. You can meet Sir Topham Hatt in person, right before you take a ride on Thomas.
"This will be a new type of experience – a recreation of the island of Sodor and a rich, exciting experience for kids," says Marc Schneider, the senior vice president and general manager of HIT Entertainment, producers of the television program Thomas and Friends. "Thomas is about teaching discovery, friendship and cooperation. We want for parents and children to have a close and personal interaction with each other and the characters."
