Fall Into Fun!
Craft Projects With Nature in Mind
By Kymberly Pratt
You'll need:
Twig or stick with many branches
Small clay pot
Uncooked beans or rice
Markers, crayons, pens
Yarn or string
Pictures of your family
Orange, yellow and brown construction paper
Scissors
Hole puncher
Here's what you help your child do:
Place the twig in the center of the pot and pour the beans or rice around it to hold it in place. Wadded up paper or floral foam could also be used.
Cut out different leaf shapes from the construction paper. Have your child write the names of people, items or places that he is thankful for on each leaf. Pictures of family and friends could also be glued on the leaves, or cut the leaf shapes directly out of the pictures.
Once the leaves are prepared, punch one hole in each leaf and cut one 4- to 5-inch piece of string/yarn for each leaf. Place a piece of string/yarn through each hole and tie a knot. After the knot is tied, hang it on the "tree."
Tip: Make smaller trees and use as place markers at your Thanksgiving table. A winter version could be made by cutting out snowflakes, trees or stockings instead of leaves. Add a festive ribbon around the pot for added decoration.
Fall Wreath
You'll need:
Grapevine wreath
Assortment of silk flowers
Pipe cleaners, white acky glue or hot glue
Coordinating ribbon
