Summer Parties
Best Birthday Bets for Your Little One
By Alexandria Powell
Michelle Conti's son was born at the end of February, so planning a party that an active little boy can really enjoy has always been a challenge – until this year. When her son's late winter party was rained out, Conti, of Monroe, La., got together with another family to plan an early summer bash.
Conti and her friend, Lisa La Cas, decided on a cowboy-themed party held at a local horse ranch for Conti's son, Sam, and La Cas' son, Dylan. Thirty-four children attended, and a great time was had by all.
"The best thing about the cowboy party was the coordination of activities and the wide open spaces," says Conti. "There was plenty of opportunity for free play – kids were running and playing when they weren't directly involved in an activity."
Conti also enjoyed getting to relax at the party and take pictures while skilled party directors kept little guests in line. "It went great, and we are planning the same party next year," says Conti.
Trying to come up with the perfect warm-weather party for your child? Below, get the scoop on summer fun.
Most of the time these parties are easy for parents and fun for kids. "You're not going anywhere, you're not paying for entertainers, and for little kids, the big thing is being there with their toys and their friends," says Fields. "Additionally, this ensures that everyone in the class gets to attend the party, as they would be there anyway."
