Let It Snow!
Fun Winter Crafts for Families
By Kymberly Pratt
The weather outside is frightful, so stay inside and help kids create their very own winter wonderful (no real snow required).
Note: Adult supervision is required for all crafts.
You'll need:
- Jar (baby food jar, mason jar – anything with a lid)
- Hot glue
- Small plastic toys, rocks or other small decorations
- Glitter
Here's what you do:
1. Using the hot glue gun, carefully place the rocks, small toys or decorations at the bottom of the jar. Make sure they are secured well.
2. After the glue has dried, fill the jar with water. You can add food coloring or some glitter if you wish.
3. Attach your jar lid, and you have your very own snow globe. Shake it up and watch it snow.
Hint: It may be a good idea to hot glue the lid onto the jar, so it is more secure.

You'll need:
- Large mason jar
- White pipe cleaners
- Scissors
- String
- Large spoon
- Pencils
- Borax
Here's what you do:
1. Use three pipe cleaners to form a snowflake (an "X" with another pipe cleaner crossing through the center). You will want to make sure the snowflake will fit inside the mouth of the jar.
2. Tie the string to the snowflake, and secure the other end of the string to a pencil. Your objective is to hang your snowflake inside the jar. Make sure it is not touching the bottom of the jar and that you can get it in and out.
